Monochrome Trend

One of the key looks that has reigned the runways of Spring/Summer’ 13 has been monochrome. The simplistic  black and white combination has been seen all over catwalks such as Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, who displayed the trend in stripes and cheques. The monochrome look will always surface and never go out of style. It can be worn in numerous ways from simple stripes, florals, chequered patterns to block colours and more. A monochrome look can always be brightened by simply adding a few neon accessories such as an oversized clutch and a pair of bright heels. Or by wearing a bright lip with matching nails. I will always have key black and white pieces in my wardrobe that I can throw on for any occasion during any season and still look stylish. The monochrome trend is timeless and is a favourite of mine. I have put together three looks that display how I would wear the monochrome trend which include variations of black and white textures and patterns.

For the first outfit I wore a white Zara tweed jacket with a Topshop cami and Mango crocodile print wet look leggings. The jacket dresses up the look and adds texture to it. It is light to wear and looks great for many occasions. The white cami is flowy and sheer which is great for the summer. It is a staple piece that will match with many items. The wet look leggings are great to throw on and balance out the block coloured pieces for this look. I tied the outfit together with Topshop studded loafers that are very comfortable, a vintage silver Casio watch and an ASOS wing ring. I wore a bright neon orange nail polish to liven up the look.

I paired a Topshop loose fitting striped top with a black midi pencil skirt for the second outfit. Stripes are a great way to wear the monochrome trend whether they be vertical or horizontal. The top I wore is very loose which is great to wear in the summer. I wore it off the shoulder with a midi skirt which will go with many tops and allows your legs to be exposed in the heat. The skirt can be worn at numerous lengths which turns it into a very versatile piece that can be worn for numerous outings.

For the third outfit I wore a black and white Urban Outfitters sheer floral print shirt with black ASOS culotte shorts and black and white Vans. Floral prints seem to never go out of style. The shirt that I wore displays this trend also with the monochrome shades. It is sheer and light which will keep you cool in the summer along with a cutout that it has on the back. The shorts are loose and an elastane blend which is great for this weather. I wanted to keep the outfit casual, so I completed the look with black and white Vans which include the monochrome shades and keep you feeling comfortable.
